Student Projects
Establishing collaborations between business and design students, is an activity virtually all design schools are involved with. The resulting projects can involve just one or two students, or whole year groups over successive years. Providing design students with the challenge and experience of what are often termed 'live projects' is an important part of the student experience. But companies do not collaborate purely for altruistic reasons, they often recognise that young creative minds can create ideas and designs that are very difficult to achieve in a conventional business setting. Companies may also benefit from the prestige of a collaboration with a well known institution. There could a desire to identify potential future employees.
There are constraints with student projects, such as fitting in with term times and academic planning. There needs to be mutual understanding of what can be achieved for everyone's benefit, but the rewards can be substantial for everyone concerned as the many case study examples demonstrate.
All Design Schools will be active in running various types of student projects with business. Simply make contact with Design Schools whose expertise matches your interests to get the ball rolling.
